The new Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant in Komotini developed by GEK TERNA and Motor Oil Hellas through their joint venture company (50%-50%) Thermoilektriki Komotinis, concludes commissioning phase in view of its commercial operation which is scheduled to begin.

It is an investment of 375 million euros, constructed by TERNA S.A., GEK TERNA’s construction arm, with an installed capacity of 877 MW.

The unit will initially use natural gas as fuel for the production of electricity, while in the future it is planned to have fossil fuel combined with hydrogen. The power plant’s CO₂ emissions are expected significantly reduced in comparison to a conventional lignite power plant.
