Brief Project Description
The Attica–Crete HVDC Interconnection (PCI) is a landmark energy project designed to secure Crete’s energy supply and enhance the stability of the Hellenic Power Transmission System (HPTS). It involves the construction of a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link with a transmission capacity of 2 × 500 MW and a voltage of ±500 kV.
The interconnection includes:
- HVDC Converter Station Koumoundouros (400 kV AC / 500 kV DC) in Attica.
- HVDC Converter Station Damasta (150 kV AC / 500 kV DC) in Crete, with black start capability.
- 150 kV GIS Substation at Damasta to connect with the local grid.
