Brief Project Description

DESFA’s Development Plan 2023-32 includes the construction of a High-Pressure Pipeline connecting the Mainline of the National Natural Gas Transmission System (NNGTS) in Karperi-Serres to the Komotini-Alexandroupoli branch (36”) in Komotini. It is referred to as “Duplicate” due to the parallel routing to the existing pipeline.

The Project aims to control the Mainline pressure drop due to the increased hydraulic loading of the 24’’eastern high-pressure section (from L/V Karperi to L/V Komotini), which will result in case of supply of a new gas fired power plant of 840 MWe installed capacity (Evros PP).

The HPP Karperi-Komotini and its components are designed for operation with hydrogen blends up to 100% pure Hydrogen (H2) according to the requirements of ASME B31.12 (checked against EN 1594 for the permitting and operational period of the pipeline with Natural Gas).
