Brief Project Description

The Project (PCI) concerns the design and construction of a Hydro-Pump Storage Power Plant at Amfilochia (Etoloakarnania, Greece), to produce electricity for public use and restore/refill the water reservoir in scheduled periods. The Amfilochia Power Station & HVC Area shall contribute to grid stability with a key role in the long-term decarbonization scenarios.

The Amfilochia Hydro-Pumped Storage Plant consists of three (3) reservoirs, a lower reservoir at Kastraki Lake and two (2) upper reservoirs, one at Agios Georgios and one at Pyrgos, which are both connected to the lower reservoir.

Agios Georgios upper reservoir shall have four (4) reversible units (turbine and pumping modes), each with a nominal capacity of 115 MW / 124 MW (Generating / Pumping). This group will have a reversible Francis-type pump-turbines with 333,33 rpm nominal rotational speed, connected to synchronous Motor-Generators.  Pyrgos PSP shall have two (2) reversible units (turbine and pumping modes), each with a nominal capacity of 220 MW / 117 MW (Generating / Pumping). It shall have a reversible Francis-type pump-turbines with 375 rpm nominal rotational speed, connected to synchronous Motor-Generators.
